We have been supporting youths and young adults since 2001.

Our journey in supporting youths and young adults with their mental health started with a small team of psychiatrists and case managers at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) back in 2001. For a long time, it was thought that all hope was lost after being diagnosed with mental health conditions such as psychosis. We knew different. We held on to our belief that early intervention ensures better recovery outcomes even for young people whose lives have been disrupted by serious mental illnesses. We set up a comprehensive and integrated care programme designed specifically to meet the unique needs of young people experiencing their first episode of psychosis. We worked hard alongside their families, provided information and emotional support, and helped their loved ones reclaim mental wellness. This was how EPIP (Early Psychosis Intervention Programme) came about and changed the treatment landscape for young people with psychosis and their families.

Over the last 20 years, we have continued to grow our efforts in primary and secondary prevention.

What began as a focus on early psychosis intervention expanded to include early detection and improving timely access to appropriate mental health services, both in the community and hospital settings, for young people with various mental health challenges, led to the birth of CHAT. Since then, we have been instrumental in driving national changes with regard to how young people access and experience mental health services and information.
